NSW Art Gallery
The
O.G.
Gallery
It was a particular sculpture in the entrance hall of the gallery which made it a perfect place for the Sons of the Acolytes in Letters to Our Robot Son – a biblical sculpture of a man, presumably Adam, fighting a snake.
Unlike its newer counterpart, the art of the older gallery and the environment itself is darker, more brooding and traditional. Author Cadance Bell isn’t a big fan of the older building (though she adores Naala Badu next door).
Drawn (to) Places
Author Cadance Bell will often spend time in locations, drawing them.
She’s the first to admit she’s not a great illustrator (her high school art teacher Mr. Burr banned her from using paint).
But it’s not about the finished product, rather the intentionality and time spent absorbing the atmosphere of a place which matters to her.
