Asgard Head and its brother mountain, Thor Head, were probably named after the old gods because that’s how you feel standing atop them.
They overlook the valleys where much of the novel of Letters to Our Robot Son is set, and Asgard Head is the home of the fictional “Skytram” from the novel.

More than meets the eye
In the novel, the mountain features extensive tunnels and an underground facility – TURBA KidZ.
In real life, the mountain was explored for coal mining, via a seam known as the Katoomba Seam.
In another reality
Ultimately, plans for mining were abandoned, but remnants of the exploration still remain.
An unused coking oven still stands, remarkably well preserved.
