While looking for inspiration for The Chosen’s side of “Menzies” (Ark 14 in the audiobook, Ark 15 in print), Cadance studied the beautiful details of The Strand Arcade between Pitt and George Streets, Sydney.

Opulence meets capitalism

The longer you spend in The Strand, the more you’ll notice the tiny details which give the arcade its rich presence.

Author Cadance Bell was looking for somewhere anachronistic and universal while still distinctly Australian.

(She couldn’t afford to buy anything there but looking is still free)
